Constitutional Reform Alliance
You have a role to play…
You are invited to join an endeavor with far-reaching implications -- constitutional reform movement spearheaded by the Constitutional Reform Alliance in Taiwan.
Since September 20 of 2005, more than 50 grassroots NGOs -- representing professionals, judicial reform bodies, environmental entities, business associations as well as labor, social, religious, gay rights, woman’s rights and minority groups – have joined the Alliance in order to pursue a joint aspiration to make the Constitution suitable for Taiwan.
We have a dream…
We have a dream that our children will one day live in a nation where they have a efficient and accountable government and enjoy a life in which all different groups can live together in peace.
Mission statement
To speed up constitutional reform by involving the citizenry.
To maintain a public forum for on-going debates.
To come up with persuasive arguments for the cause.
Our action plan for 2006
The Alliance has compiled a white paper to convey our proposals for provisions on human rights to be included in the constitution and a desired constitutional framework. Throughout 2006, we intend to engage the public in active discussions at various forums to clarify issues and implementation approaches.
Everyone should be involved
Contrary to some elitist thinking that constitutional reform is a highly sophisticated undertaking and only the top-echelon intelligentsia is qualified to participate, we believe every citizen is entitled to a voice as each of their lives are directly deeply impacted by the contents of the Constitution.
Our organization
The secretariat conducts day to day operation following instructions from executive committee. The committee is divided into three teams for reform proposal formulation, information dissemination and advocacy respectively.
Proposal Formulation Team:
responsible for collecting and studying related literature of constitutional reform including the experiences of other countries; inviting members of the Alliance to discuss the issues involved; and suggesting constitution drafts.
Information Dissemination Team:
responsible for laying a solid foundation of constitutional education through a series of lectures, seminars, workshops, citizen meetings; publishing books, and pamphlets, etc, ; using internet media or newspapers to reach the goal of discussions, dialogues, or to create a common understanding.
Advocacy Team:
responsible for mobilizing people. Once the draft of constitutional reforms is completed, they will push for legislative support and prompt the lawmaking.
